Jackie grew up in Normal, Illinois, the fifth of seven children. Influenced by her older sister, she came to Christ at 15. In college, she served as a leader in InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF) at Illinois State University. After graduation, she taught high school geography and moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan, as IVCF staff. She married during this time, but left the abusive marriage to return to Normal where she renewed her relationship with the Lord and shared with other abused women. She worked at Hewlett-Packard, studied and taught English as a second language, cared for her mother, and traveled with her nephew. She has served as the Foundation Hour teacher for 5th and 6th graders since 2000. Forced retirement opened the opportunity for Jackie to become a master gardener and work part-time at Christ Church as the Director of Children’s Ministries.
