Spiritual Formation
The questions examined throughout the Christian life mirror the four seasons of a year. Spiritual Formation Groups examine biblical answers for the following questions in a seasonal structure.
We invite you to let the Holy Spirit shape you in the four seasons of the Christian life by joining in these groups. Find out the dates and times of these small groups by contacting the church office.
Spring:
Identity in Christ is the first season of spiritual formation when we address the question: Who am I in Christ?
- Living out of your identity in Christ gives you the perspective, peace and strength to deal with the lies and pain we all encounter and often times embrace. Finding our identity in Christ allows the gospel to shape our lives.
- We’ll read and discuss being made in God’s image, gender distinctions, the lies of Satan, justification, adoption, and definitive sanctification. At the conclusion, we write out our identity in Christ and share it with each other.
Summer:
Calling in Christ flows from identity as summer follows spring–who we are leads to a clearer understanding of God’s call on our lives. The key question: How is God calling me to live for His glory?
- People who have a sense of God’s meaningful calling on their lives tend to live before God with open hearts, intentionality, faith, hope, and love. (All of you to all of Christ in all of life.)
- We read and discuss kairotic events in our lives that shape our sense of calling, our longings, Bible texts, theological writings on calling, our life-message, faith-hope-love in Christ, and finding a band of believers. As a practical exercise, we will write and share our sense of calling.
Fall:
Intentionality for Christ is for the season in our lives commonly known as mid-life. The key question: What Does it Mean to Invest Wholeheartedly for Eternity?
- In this season we typically have the most experience, and the best remaining years of health to aim at excellence and eternity. With an intentional, downward mobility into the next generation, we may leave the legacy that glorifies God when we finish our race.
- We study and discuss the peculiar challenges common to this season. Such as: fear, regret, busyness, and resignation to a life of ease without suffering. This is a season for coming to terms with one’s dreams and life as it really turned out.
- We will write out how we are coming to terms with providence, no longer ruled by regret, fears, and busyness. After renouncing the spirit of death marked by resignation, we’ll list and share our intentions for Christ in the next decade and the risks we are willing to take in fighting for what matters most to your soul.
Winter:
Legacy from Christ is the last season of the Christian life, and is meant to shape us for eternity with Christ that others may follow. The key question: What Does it Mean to Die Well?
- With a clearer sense of eternity and longing to see Christ face to Face, we are free from fear and able to invest our lives for heaven.
- We examine and discuss what God has put in our treasury of experience and assets. We ponder our final testament of God’s faithfulness to us for the succeeding generation. We face the river of death in a way that gives us courage to see our time of crossing it as gain, and we write and share our benediction to our successors.
